What is your purpose in life?
Can you envision yourself there?
How bad do you want that dream?
Are you willing to makesacrifices?
What are your short/long term goals?
What are you doing on a daily basis to get there?
We live in a generation of instant gratification. This has caused us to become irritable, frustrated, and short tempered. We don’t want to trust the process. We want instant results. We don’t want to be
patient, we want things to work out in our favor NOW! I used to be so impatient in certain areas in my life, I still struggle to this day, but I have gotten A LOT better. I realized I wanted God to be my personal miracle worker. I wanted a better job, I wanted a better pay, I wanted a better living condition.
I, I, I, it’s all about ME…Right???
WRONG!!! The world doesn’t revolve around me. God has taught me that in my journey towards fulfilling my purpose in life, I am to help others along the way in their path. I had a heart problem, metaphorically. I wanted to do it on my own and yet again, I struggled with surrendering unto Him. There is a lesson to be learned in the process.
When a flower grows, it starts as a seed and blossoms. THE PROCESS
When a baby is born, it starts off as a fetus until it is fully developed and ready to survive in the world. THE PROCESS
Learning a new skill takes time to perfect. IT’S A PROCESS !!
I believe that the process is just as important as the end result. Even in the bible God took 7 days to create the earth and in detail describes THE PROCESS. Now clearly he could have created the earth, stars, and galaxy in a nanosecond in a simple breath, but he didn’t.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.”
I believe He did this to teach us to slow down and appreciate the process. To sit and reflect on our life, decisions, interactions on a moment by moment basis. I have been doing this with one of my favorite artist Chance the Rapper. I have been going back and listening to his mixtapes before the world said “he made it.” I resonate with this particular song by him and his brother, Taylor Bennett, called “Broad Shoulders“.
Here’s a snippet of my favorite lines:
Reach for your goal, say what you’re told
Think that you know
See what you’re shown, watch it get old
Teach what you learn
I just be tweakin’ though
And dream the unthinkable
And prayin‘ it may come true
Hopin’ it do come soon
And then I’m gon’ make my move
But still I’m not bulletproof
We could all sing the blues
We could all hear the news but I ain’t come here to lose
And I will not be removed
Lovin’ the pen, you knew God had a plan for you, now you think Jesus forgot you
Look at the fam you grew, God had a plan for you, when you thought Jesus forgot you
Takeaway: Take a deep breath and enjoy the good and bad in life. Remember, it all comes together for your good. It’s okay to become frustrated or fearful in the process, but keep moving forward and be patient with yourself.
